El Cuyo Beach Camping
El Cuyo sits at the end of a bone-rattling 40km dirt road on Yucatan’s untouched Caribbean coast. This sleepy fishing village offers some of the best beach camping in Mexico — pull right up to the sand for sunrise coffee and flamingo spotting in the nearby lagoons. The beach stretches for kilometers with almost no development, just pelicans, frigate birds, and the occasional local fisherman. Basic supplies available in the village, but bring everything you need.
Road can be challenging after rain — deep puddles and muddy sections require attention. Dry season (November-April) is ideal, but even then expect a slow, bumpy ride. No formal camping fees, but locals appreciate small donations for beach access. Cell service is spotty to nonexistent.
