Cenote Samulá Sacred Swimming Cave
This underground cathedral features a dramatic shaft of sunlight piercing through a small opening 80 feet above the water surface, creating an ethereal spotlight effect. The circular pool is 30 feet deep with crystal-clear water perfect for swimming. Ancient stalactites frame the opening while tree roots cascade down from the jungle above. A wooden staircase leads down to the water level.
Located just outside Valladolid, sharing an entrance with the more famous Cenote X-keken. Entry fee includes access to both cenotes. Best light occurs between 11 AM and 1 PM when the sun beam is most dramatic. Changing rooms and life jackets available. Gets crowded with tour groups — visit early morning or late afternoon for a more peaceful experience.
