James River Natural Spring Access
A cold-water spring feeds directly into the James River at milepost 63.6 on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The spring produces about 5 gallons per minute year-round, flowing clear and clean from exposed bedrock into a series of deep pools perfect for swimming and water collection. Popular with through-hikers on the Appalachian Trail and overlanders running the parkway.
Pull-off parking for 4-5 vehicles on the west side of the parkway. Spring is a 100-yard walk downstream from the parking area. Water tests clean but filter as always. Gets busy on summer weekends. Best access is early morning or late afternoon.
