Parque Nacional Patagonia Campamento Confluencia
Confluencia sits at the meeting point of Río de las Vueltas and Río Túnel, surrounded by lenga forest with views of the Fitz Roy massif on clear days. The 15 designated sites are scattered along the riverbank with basic amenities — pit toilets, fire rings, and picnic tables built from local wood. Water comes straight from the river and should be treated. The campground serves as base camp for serious trekkers heading into the Huemul Circuit, one of Argentina’s most challenging multi-day hikes.
Getting here requires 45 minutes of rough gravel road from El Chaltén, passable by most vehicles but watch for washouts after heavy rain. The campground operates November through March, with January being peak season when reservations are essential. Expect constant wind — this is Patagonia after all — and weather that can change from sunshine to sideways sleet in minutes.
