BLM Cathedral Valley Dispersed Area
Cathedral Valley sits in the remote northern section of Capitol Reef National Park, accessible through BLM lands via the rugged Hartnet Road. Scattered campsites dot the desert floor between massive sandstone monoliths like the Temple of the Sun and Temple of the Moon. Sites are primitive — just pull-offs with fire rings left by previous campers. No facilities, no water, no cell service. The area sees light use except during peak spring months.
Access requires high-clearance 4WD due to deep sand washes and rocky sections. Road conditions vary with weather — impassable when wet. From I-70 take the Fremont River/Hartnet Road exit, then 20+ miles of rough dirt. Spring and fall offer the best conditions; summer heat is brutal, winter brings snow at elevation.
