The Dirty Mule has two notification surfaces: the in-site bell icon and email. You control both from your account settings.
The bell
Top-right of the header, just before your account menu. Shows a small gold badge with a number when you have unread notifications.
Click the bell to see the five most recent notifications. Each links to whatever it’s about (a trip invite, a hand-off offer, etc.). Click a notification to navigate to it and mark it read.
The bell also has a Mark all read button (only when there are unread notifications) and a See all activity link to your account’s Activity tab.
Email frequency
Account → Profile tab → Trip emails section. Three options:
- Daily digest (default) — one email per day around 8 AM (your site’s local time) summarizing the day’s activity
- Instant — email me when something happens. Rate-limited to 10/hour to prevent runaway notification storms
- Off — no emails. In-site bell only.
The daily digest is the default and what most people want — informative without being noisy. Instant is for active trip-planning moments when you want to be in the loop in real time.
What you get notified about
- Trip invites (someone added you to a trip)
- Items assigned to you (or proposed via hand-off)
- Reassignment acceptances or declines (for items you offered)
- Crew members joining or declining trips you organize
- [VERIFY other notification types as we add them]
You don’t get notified about: site-wide announcements, marketing, password resets (those are separate emails always sent regardless of preference).
Email deliverability
If emails aren’t reaching your inbox, check spam first. If they’re landing there consistently, mark one as “not spam” — your email provider will learn from that.
The manage-settings link
Every notification email has a “manage notification settings” link at the bottom. It deep-links to the settings section of your account page so you can adjust without hunting around.
Per-notification-type preferences
Currently, your frequency preference applies to everything (you choose daily/instant/off as a single setting). Per-type preferences (“instant for invites, daily for everything else”) aren’t available yet but are a planned enhancement.
