Prokletije Vusanje Trailhead
The primary access point into Montenegro’s slice of the Prokletije range, this trailhead sits at the edge of Vusanje village where asphalt ends and stone begins. A gravel parking area accommodates a dozen vehicles, with basic trail markers pointing toward Vusanje Lake and the Albanian border ridges. Local families sometimes offer homestay accommodation or trail guides. The trail system connects to Albania’s Valbona Valley, making this a key link in trans-border trekking routes.
Reach via the R-2 road from Plav, then local roads through Vusanje — the final 3km is rough but passable in any vehicle with care. Best accessed May through October when snow clears from high passes. No facilities at the trailhead itself, so fuel up in Plav and carry water. Romanian and German hikers know this spot well, but it sees lighter traffic than Albanian approaches.
