Theth Church Trail

Trailhead

The iconic stone church of Theth village marks the start of several major hiking routes into the Albanian Alps, including connections to the Peaks of the Balkans Trail. This 200-year-old Catholic church sits in a dramatic valley surrounded by limestone peaks that rise nearly vertical from the village floor. Basic parking area can handle a few dozen vehicles, but gets crowded during peak summer trekking season.

Access requires driving the notorious Theth road—15km of steep, narrow switchbacks from SH21 that demands patience and a steady hand. The church serves as both cultural landmark and practical navigation point for multiple trail systems heading deeper into the Accursed Mountains. Village offers guesthouses and simple supplies, but bring serious gear for the high country.
