Ferne Clyffe State Park Natural Spring

Water Source

A natural spring emerges from the limestone canyon walls at Ferne Clyffe State Park, providing reliable cold water year-round. The spring sits about 200 yards from the main parking area via an easy walking trail through the narrow canyon. Water flows at a steady rate even during dry summer months, and locals have been using it for decades.

Access is straightforward from the main park road. The spring is well-marked and sits in a small grotto formation typical of southern Illinois karst geology. Park gates close at sunset, so plan accordingly if you’re filling water containers late in the day.
