Johnson County State Fish and Wildlife Area Campground
This no-frills state campground sits on 2,000 acres of rolling hills and timber surrounding a 42-acre fishing lake stocked with bass, bluegill, and catfish. Twenty-four primitive campsites scattered through oak woods offer fire rings and picnic tables, with vault toilets and a hand pump for water. It’s popular with hunters during fall seasons but otherwise sees light use, making it a peaceful base camp for exploring nearby Shawnee trails.
Sites are first-come, first-served and fill slowly except during hunting seasons. The gravel campground road is easily passable by any vehicle, though some sites require backing into tight spots between trees. No hookups or dump station.
