Barrancas del Cobre Train Station
The western terminus of the famous Chihuahua-Pacific Railway sits dramatically on the canyon rim at 2,400 meters elevation. The station itself is modest but the views into the Copper Canyon system are staggering — a network of six interconnected canyons deeper and larger than the Grand Canyon. Several overlook trails start right from the station parking area, including the easy rim walk to Mirador El Balcón Diablos. The train runs year-round but schedules change seasonally.
The station has basic facilities, restrooms, and a small gift shop. Camping isn’t allowed at the station itself, but several established spots exist within a few kilometers along the access road. The pavement ends about 5 km before the station — the final stretch is good gravel suitable for any vehicle. Elevation means cool nights even in summer.
