Chimney Beach Dispersed Camping
Tucked between massive granite boulders on Lake Tahoe’s Nevada shore, Chimney Beach offers some of the most scenic dispersed camping around the lake. Sites are scattered among the rocks, each one feeling like a private sanctuary with direct access to Tahoe’s famously clear water. Most spots fit one rig, though larger boulders create natural windbreaks. Fire restrictions are common May through October, and the area sees heavy day-use traffic on summer weekends.
Access via a rough 0.8-mile dirt road that drops steeply toward the lake — high-clearance recommended for the last quarter mile. Winter access depends on snow levels. No facilities whatsoever, so pack out everything and bring your own water. Cell service is spotty to none.
