Forty-nine developed sites spread along the eastern shore of Washoe Lake, with most offering decent views across the water to the Virginia Range. The lake level fluctuates wildly — sometimes it’s a proper lake, other times more of a mudflat depending on snowpack and drought cycles. Sites have standard amenities and the campground rarely fills except during peak summer weekends.
Strong afternoon winds are the norm here, so secure your gear and consider the sheltered sites on the south end. The location makes it an ideal base camp for day trips into the Pine Nut Mountains or longer expeditions through the Virginia Mountains Loop. Restrooms are heated in winter.
