This dead-end road climbs from sagebrush into aspen groves and alpine terrain, ending at 8,800 feet with parking for several wilderness trailheads. The road is fully paved but narrow with pullouts for photos of the dramatic canyon walls and cascading creeks. Multiple campgrounds along the route, plus dispersed camping opportunities in the upper reaches.
Road is typically open May through October, though snow can close the upper sections earlier. Popular with locals on weekends. The end of the road provides access to Liberty Lake, Island Lake, and other alpine destinations in the Ruby Mountains Wilderness.
