Cedar Pass Lodge sits at the heart of Badlands National Park near the Ben Reifel Visitor Center, offering the only restaurant, gift shop, and fuel within park boundaries. The rustic lodge serves hearty meals and stocks basic supplies, ice, and snacks that overlanders running the backcountry roads desperately need after days in the formations. The adjacent campground provides a more civilized base camp compared to the primitive sites scattered throughout the park.
Open seasonally from April through October, the lodge gets slammed during summer weekends when the park sees its heaviest visitation. Fuel prices run higher than outside the park, but it’s worth the convenience when you’re deep in the Badlands loop roads. The historic building dates to the 1960s and maintains that classic national park lodge atmosphere.
