Fairview Peak Fire Lookout

Remote fire tower perched at 9,500 feet in Nevada's Toiyabe Range with sweeping views of the Great Basin desert below.

This active fire lookout sits atop Fairview Peak in the Toiyabe National Forest, offering commanding views across central Nevada’s basin and range country. The 40-foot steel tower is staffed during fire season and provides panoramic vistas of the Reese River Valley, Austin, and distant mountain ranges. Access requires a rough 4WD road that climbs steadily through pinyon-juniper forest to alpine terrain.

The final approach involves several miles of rocky, narrow forest road that demands high clearance and careful driving. Summer thunderstorms can make the route treacherous, and winter snow blocks access entirely. No facilities at the summit — bring water and be prepared for sudden weather changes at elevation.
