Several primitive sites along Sespe Creek Road offer true backcountry dispersed camping in the Los Padres wilderness area. Sites are basic — flat spots near the creek with established fire rings. The creek runs year-round but gets low by late summer. Area sees heavy use during deer season but stays quiet most of the year. No facilities whatsoever, pack it in and pack it out.
Reach via Sespe Creek Road from Highway 33 near Fillmore — rough dirt road requiring high clearance. Road can wash out during heavy rains and may be gated seasonally. Check fire restrictions, this area burns frequently. Popular staging area for wilderness backpacking permits.
