Table Rock Road
Technical climb to Cascade Range overlook
Forest Road 3140 switchbacks up nearly 3,000 vertical feet through cathedral groves of Douglas fir and western hemlock before breaking onto Table Rock’s flat-topped summit at 4,881 feet. The rough jeep trail gets technical in the final mile, with loose rock, steep grades, and tight turns that’ll test your rig’s climbing ability and your nerve as you navigate around massive old-growth stumps.
This is proper 4WD territory – articulation, low range, and rock sliders recommended for the upper sections. Summer and early fall only; snow closes the route by November. No permits but the Forest Service monitors access, so respect closures. The payoff is worth the punishment: 360-degree views spanning Mount Hood, Mount Jefferson, and the entire Cascade volcanic chain. Dispersed camping available at the base, but the summit’s too exposed and fragile.
