Willow Flat Campground — Canyonlands Island in the Sky

Established Campground

Willow Flat is a small NPS campground on the Island in the Sky mesa at around 6,100 feet. It has about a dozen first-come, first-served sites, pit toilets, and no water, so haul in everything you’ll drink. It sits among scattered juniper and piñon, close to Green River Overlook, and the mesa top is quiet at night with big dark skies. In peak spring and fall it can fill early in the day, so arrive early. Fees and fire rules are set by the park and can change. Verify ahead.

The pavement runs into camp, so any vehicle works. The camp is also a handy staging spot for the White Rim Road, which needs a permit and a proper high-clearance 4WD. Spring and fall are the sweet spots. Summer is hot even up top, and winter nights can drop well below freezing. Cell signal is spotty and varies by site. Moab is about 30 miles away for fuel and resupply. Have a dirty day.
