Dempster Highway — Engineer Creek Roadside Dispersed Camp
Sitting roughly at Dempster Highway kilometre 194, Engineer Creek is one of those understated roadside pulls that rewards anyone who stops. The creek runs clear off the Ogilvie Mountains, the gravel bars are wide enough for a handful of rigs, and the scenery — open boreal, creek willows, the odd Dall sheep sighting on the slopes above — is pure Yukon. No facilities, no signage, no fee. Just pull well off the gravel and set up. Fire restrictions vary by season; check with Yukon Highways before you light one.
The Dempster surface here is compacted gravel — manageable in a high-clearance 2WD in dry conditions but slippery and soft after rain. Engineer Creek Campground (Government of Yukon maintained) is nearby if you want a fire ring and an outhouse; the dispersed pull is for those who want to be on their own. Season runs late May through September before the freeze sets in hard.
Creek flat solitude on the Dempster's boreal stretch.
