Unaweep Canyon — BLM Divide Road Dispersed Camp
Unaweep Canyon cuts through the Uncompahgre Plateau along CO-141 between Whitewater and Gateway — and the BLM land flanking the Divide Road corridor offers real dispersed camping on flat benches above the canyon floor. You’re looking at cottonwood bottoms, sheer red walls, and almost no other campers on a weekday. No facilities, no signage — just pick a spot 300 feet off the road and set up. Fire restrictions apply in summer; check the BLM Grand Junction Field Office before you burn anything.
Access is straightforward on CO-141 or FR-reachable two-tracks off the main canyon road — high-clearance preferred for the benches above the wash. Cell signal is essentially gone once you drop into the canyon. Spring and fall are the sweet spots; summer temps in the canyon bottom can be brutal. Stay limit is 14 days; no permit required.
Split canyon, red walls, zero crowds.
