BLM Grand Junction Field Office — Rattlesnake Canyon Road Dispersed Camp

Pull off along the sandy two-track approaches to Rattlesnake Canyon on BLM land managed out of the Grand Junction Field Office. You’re on a wide-open Entrada sandstone bench with sweeping views into the canyon system and toward the Book Cliffs to the north. No facilities, no fee, no crowds compared to anything inside Colorado National Monument proper. Sites are informal — flat sandy pull-outs in the piñon-juniper. Fire restrictions are common here in summer; check with Grand Junction BLM before you light anything. Cell service is essentially zero once you’re off Glade Park Road.

Access via Glade Park Road west from Grand Junction, then south on BLM roads toward the Rattlesnake Canyon trailhead. Roads are sandy and loose — high-clearance 4WD strongly recommended, especially after rain when the clay/sand mix gets greasy fast. Spring and fall are the money seasons. Summer heat is brutal and biting gnats come with it.
