Colorado National Monument — Grand View Overlook
Grand View Overlook sits near the east end of Rim Rock Drive and delivers exactly what the name promises. On a clear day you’re looking at 60-plus miles of high desert geology — the Grand Valley floor 2,000 feet below, the Book Cliffs rolling northeast, and the Uncompahgre Plateau rising to the south. Sunrise and sunset here are absurdly good. It’s a paved pull-off, so it gets day-tripper traffic, but show up at first light and you’ll have it to yourself.
Access is via Rim Rock Drive, which is paved and open year-round weather permitting. The monument entrance fee applies. No overnight camping at the overlook itself — nearest camping is Saddlehorn Campground a few miles west. This is the logical bookend viewpoint for anyone running Glade Park Road up from the BLM side and finishing on the paved monument road.
