Divide Fork Campground — Uncompahgre National Forest
Divide Fork sits at the western edge of Uncompahgre National Forest off Divide Road (FR 402), right where the plateau starts dropping into canyon country. It’s a small, no-frills USFS campground — a handful of sites tucked into scrub oak and pinyon-juniper, with vault toilets and a couple of fire rings. Quiet, low traffic, and a legitimate staging point for overlanders running the TAT connector through Unaweep Canyon toward Paradox Valley and Gateway. Elevation keeps it cooler than the canyon floors below.
Access is via CO-141 south of Whitewater, then east on Divide Road — a maintained gravel forest road passable by most high-clearance rigs in dry conditions. Snow can close the upper plateau sections well into May. No drinking water on site, so tank up in Grand Junction or Whitewater before you roll. Cell signal is essentially zero.
Plateau basecamp before the canyon descent.
