Twee Rivieren Rest Camp — Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park Main Gate
Twee Rivieren sits at the confluence of the Nossob and Auob fossil riverbeds, right at the southern park gate. It’s the most developed camp in Kgalagadi — fenced sites with power points, ablution blocks, a small shop with basic provisions, a fuel station, and a swimming pool that’ll feel like a miracle after the Nossob run. Campsites are well-spaced on red Kalahari sand under camel thorn trees. Peak season (South African school holidays, June–August) fills fast — book months ahead through SANParks. Wildlife walks through camp routinely; lions and leopards are not uncommon at the fence line after dark.
Access is paved from Upington to the gate — it’s the only tarred road you’ll touch before heading north on the Nossob. Fill tanks here. Cell signal exists at camp but disappears quickly once you head north. SANParks permit and park entry fee required; self-drive day visitors must be out before gate closing time.
Southern gate basecamp — fuel, food, fence, lions.
