Davidson River Campground — Pisgah National Forest

Davidson River Campground is the anchor camp for anyone running the Pisgah backcountry. Sits along the clear, cold Davidson River between Brevard and the Pisgah Ranger District office — you’ve got 161 sites spread through a hardwood and white pine forest, with flush toilets, hot showers, and drinking water on tap. Busy on summer weekends; book early or show up mid-week. Fire rings at every site. Black bears are active — use the bear boxes.

Access is paved all the way in off US-276, so any rig can reach it. It’s your best base for day runs into the Pisgah backcountry, the Art Loeb Trailhead, and the forest roads heading north toward the Black Mountains. Open year-round, though some facilities may be reduced in winter. Reserve through Recreation.gov — walk-ups are rare on weekends May through October.
