Manning Gorge Campground — Mount Barnett Station
Manning Gorge Campground sits on Mount Barnett Station, tucked into the sandstone country of the Kimberley about 300 km east of Derby on the Gibb River Road. It’s a fee-based site run through the Mount Barnett Roadhouse, which is right next door for fuel and basic supplies. The camp is shaded by paperbarks and pandanus along Manning Creek, with drop toilets, hot showers, and fire rings — a proper setup by Kimberley standards. You’re here to swim the gorge and hike to Manning Falls, full stop. Allow half a day minimum for the walk and crossing.
Access is off the Gibb River Road (unsealed) and is typically open dry season only — May through October. The creek crossing to the falls requires a short swim regardless of vehicle capability; tie your gear in a dry bag. Site fills fast in peak season (July–August), arrive early or expect company. No advance booking — pay at the roadhouse on arrival.
