The approach road switchbacks up from Rancagua through desert foothills, passing massive tailings and industrial ruins before reaching the ‘City of Stairs’ itself. UNESCO protects the site now, but the mining roads continue higher to active Teniente operations and spectacular overlooks of the central Andes.

Moderate route suitable for most high-clearance vehicles, though the altitude and switchbacks demand attention. Regular passenger cars can reach the lower viewpoints, but the full circuit requires 4WD. Open year-round but winter brings snow and ice.
