Yukon River — Carmacks Ferry Crossing Viewpoint
Standing at the Carmacks ferry crossing, you’re looking at one of the Yukon’s great natural divides — the river wide, grey-green, and moving with serious intent. The free reaction ferry (operated by Yukon Highways) connects the Klondike Highway side to the west-bank network of mining and wilderness roads, including the Dawson Range backcountry routes toward Mount Nansen. It’s the gateway for any rig heading into the Yukon River’s left-bank country. Pull over on the east bank, stretch your legs, and glass the cliffs across the water.
The ferry operates seasonally — typically June through October depending on ice conditions and water levels. It is not a 24-hour service; check Yukon 511 or Yukon Highways before building your timing around it. There’s a small pullout and boat launch area on the east bank.
