Wisconsin River Pine Island Dispersed Area
Pine Island sits in the Wisconsin River about 15 miles upstream from the Dells, accessible by a rough sand track that fords a shallow channel. The island offers primitive camping under tall pines with direct river access for swimming and fishing. Several fire rings scattered around the high ground, with space for maybe six rigs if everyone’s friendly about it.
Access road can be challenging — deep sand in spots and the water crossing varies with river levels. Best in late summer when water’s low. No facilities whatsoever, and the sand track can trap lighter vehicles. Local knowledge helps for the exact route in.
