Tyhee Lake — Quick Creek FSR Trailhead and Staging Area
Tyhee Lake sits just off Highway 16 east of Smithers and gives overlanders a well-documented staging area before pushing north into the Babine Mountains Provincial Park corridor via Quick Creek FSR and surrounding forest roads. The lake itself is calm and scenic — nothing dramatic, just good flat ground, shade from spruce, and a genuine sense that you’re transitioning from pavement life to backcountry. Proximity to Smithers means last-chance fuel and grocery runs are easy, and the Cronin Creek Trailhead is within striking distance.
The Quick Creek FSR network off this area opens up solid sub-alpine terrain — expect gravel roads that go from well-maintained to rough and rocky within a few kilometres. High-clearance is a must once you get off the main FSR. Late June through September is the realistic window; earlier in spring the upper roads hold snow and can be a quagmire.
