Tsavo West National Park Ngulia Safari Lodge Campsite
Ngulia sits in the heart of Kenya’s largest national park, surrounded by black lava rock outcrops and fever tree forests. The campsite has basic banda shelters and designated camping spots with shared ablution blocks — flush toilets and bucket showers. No electricity at individual sites, but the adjacent safari lodge has a restaurant and bar for supplies. The real draw is the wildlife: elephants, buffalo, and plains game frequent the nearby waterhole, especially during dry season. Lions roar through the night, and the Ngulia Rhino Sanctuary is walking distance away.
Access requires a 4WD for the final approach — sandy tracks through acacia scrubland can be soft after rains. Park fees are steep but include game drives on rough tracks through some of East Africa’s wildest country. Best during dry months May through October when animals concentrate around water. Bring everything you need including food, fuel, and emergency supplies — this is true bush camping 200 kilometers from civilization.
