Ol Tukai Lodge Campground — Amboseli National Park
Ol Tukai sits in the acacia woodlands at the core of Amboseli National Park — one of the best-known elephant-watching grounds on the continent. The KWS public campsite here is a working, no-frills bush camp: long-drop toilets, a basic water point, and fire rings. You’ll share the airspace with dust devils rolling off the Amboseli basin and the silhouette of Kilimanjaro if the clouds cooperate. It gets busy during the European winter high season (December–February) and around Kenyan school holidays, so arriving early in the day matters.
Access from Mtito Andei via the Chyulu Hills route drops you onto the Kimana Gate approach from the northeast — high-clearance 4WD required after rains. The Namanga Gate route from the south is more frequently graded. Pay park fees at the gate via the KWS eCitizen platform before arrival; cash is not always accepted. Cell signal is patchy inside the park boundary — M-Pesa transactions work better near the gate.
Kilimanjaro at dawn, elephants at the fence.
