Torra Conservancy Campsite — Skeleton Coast Hinterland Desert Camp

Established Campground

Torra Conservancy sits in the Kunene Region between the Skeleton Coast and the interior highlands, run by the Damara and Herero communities under Namibia’s communal conservancy framework. The camp is a proper established site with basic facilities — ablutions, fire rings, and braai pits — set against a backdrop of rocky desert plains and scattered salvadora scrub. It’s the kind of place where the silence is absolute after dark and black rhino tracks show up in the sand around the perimeter. Small capacity, intimate, and genuinely wild-feeling. Book through Wilderness Safaris or the conservancy directly.

Access from the D2612 is manageable in a high-clearance 4WD — corrugated gravel for most of the approach. Best run April through October before the heat becomes punishing. Gate protocols apply; confirm entry permissions before rolling in. This camp sees far less traffic than the NWR concession sites, which is exactly the point.

Communal conservancy camp in rhino country.
