Möwe Bay — Kunene River Coastal Flats Dispersed Camp
Möwe Bay sits at the far northern end of the Skeleton Coast Park, roughly where the desert finally meets the Kunene River system. The flats here are dead flat hardpan and gravel — you can spread out and park without fighting for a level spot. It’s one of the quietest, most isolated pieces of coast in southern Africa: no shops, no fuel, no help if something goes wrong. Brown hyena tracks in the morning sand are routine. The NWR warden station at Möwe Bay is the reference point; camping is in the immediate vicinity under park rules, limited to permit holders transiting the northern park.
Access requires a valid Skeleton Coast Park permit issued by NWR Windhoek or Swakopmund — no walk-ins. The track north from Ugabmund is corrugated coastal sand and gravel, passable by 4WD only. Fuel at Khorixas before you enter; there is nothing between the southern gate and here. Season runs April through October — summer heat and restricted park hours make off-season transits miserable and potentially denied at the gate.
End of the road. Desert meets the Kunene.
