Mowe Bay — Skeleton Coast Northern Terminus Dispersed Camp

Mowe Bay is the ghost-coast payoff. You’ve ground through 200-plus kilometres of corrugated gravel and deep sand to get here, and the reward is a desolate Atlantic beach where Cape fur seal colonies number in the thousands, Benguela fog rolls in cold and thick by afternoon, and the rusting hulks of shipwrecks lie half-buried in the surf line. There’s a small Namibian Ministry ranger station here but no formal campground — permitted vehicles overnight on open ground near the coast. It’s raw, windy, and utterly unlike anywhere else on the continent.

Access is strictly via the Skeleton Coast Park concession permit, bookable through the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism in Windhoek — walk-ins are turned back at Springbokwasser. The track north of Uniab deteriorates significantly; soft beach sand and rocky calcrete alternate without warning. Fuel from Khorixas must cover the full return unless you’ve pre-arranged resupply. Fires are prohibited inside the park boundary.
