This surreal landscape in the Nebraska Panhandle features dozens of mushroom-shaped rock pedestals and eroded badlands that feel more like Mars than the Great Plains. The park offers a 1-mile interpretive trail that winds through the most dramatic formations, plus longer backcountry routes for serious hikers. Primitive camping is allowed throughout the area, with spectacular sunrise and sunset views from elevated spots.
Access is via 5 miles of maintained gravel road from Highway 2, passable by any vehicle in dry conditions but can turn to gumbo when wet. No facilities whatsoever — pack everything in and out. Best visited spring through fall when weather is stable.
