Tilmouth Well Roadhouse and Caravan Park
Tilmouth Well is the roadhouse and caravan park that overlanders point at when they talk about getting a first night under the belt out of Alice Springs. It’s a working outback stop with camping, fuel and basic supplies. Expect grassy and gravelly sites, a few trees for shade, bathrooms with showers, and a mix of grey nomads, road-train drivers and Tanami-bound 4x4s. It fills up in the cooler dry months, so call ahead if you want a powered site.
Treat it as your last chance to top up fuel, water, ice and food before the long push north-west along the Tanami toward Halls Creek and Wolfe Creek Crater. Fuel prices out here are what they are, so don’t whine about it. Services, opening hours and fees change, so verify ahead. The roadhouse itself is reachable in any vehicle, but the Tanami beyond it is a different story: washboard, bulldust and long gaps between fuel, so carry extra range and water. Have a dirty day.
Last roadhouse camp before the Tanami proper.
