Temperance River State Park
Temperance River State Park sits right on Highway 61 where the Temperance River carves a dramatic gorge through volcanic rock before hitting Lake Superior. The campground has 50 sites scattered through dense forest, with a handful offering glimpses of the big lake. Sites are tight but manageable for most rigs, and the park stays busy during peak summer and fall color season.
Access is straightforward off the main highway, but the real draw is proximity to Forest Road 424 and other Superior National Forest routes. The river gorge trail system connects directly to backcountry access points. Park fills fast on weekends — reserve ahead or risk disappointment.
