Tangle Lakes Campground — Denali Highway Mile 21.5
Tangle Lakes sits at mile 21.5 of the Denali Highway, right on the water with views of the Alaska Range that’ll stop you mid-bite at the camp stove. It’s a legit BLM campground — vault toilets, fire rings, picnic tables — with sites spread along the lakeshore. Expect it to fill on summer weekends with fishermen chasing lake trout and grayling. Fire restrictions vary by season so check current conditions before you show up with a bundle of wood.
Access is straightforward from Paxson heading west — mostly gravel with washboard that gets rough mid-summer between grading cycles. The campground is signed. Season runs roughly June through September, though the road can open earlier. Cell service here is essentially zero. Self-register on-site and pack your trash out.
