Strokkur Geothermal Spring
Strokkur is the most reliable geyser in Iceland, erupting roughly every 5-10 minutes with impressive 15-20 meter water columns. Part of the Haukadalur geothermal field alongside the original Geysir, it sits right on the Golden Circle route that most overlanders run. The viewing area gets packed with tour buses during midday summer hours, but early morning or evening visits offer better photography and fewer crowds.
Located just off Route 35, about 10km from Gullfoss waterfall. Paved access road leads to a large parking area with visitor facilities. Free to view, though parking fees apply during peak season. The geothermal field is active year-round, with winter visits offering dramatic steam contrasts against snow.
