Hrauneyjar Highland Center

This remote highland outpost serves as the crucial resupply and rest point for F roads leading to Landmannalaugar, Eldgjá, and deeper into the Icelandic interior. Full service facility includes accommodation in mountain huts, restaurant serving hearty Icelandic fare, fuel station with diesel, and small shop stocking basic supplies. The surrounding landscape is pure highland desolation — black lava fields stretching to distant peaks.

Located at the junction of F26 Sprengisandur and routes to Landmannalaugar, making it impossible to miss if you’re heading into the highlands from the south. Open roughly June through September, weather dependent. Book accommodation ahead during peak season as this is the only game in town for miles. Winter access requires serious preparation and local knowledge.
