Home to Geysir (mostly dormant) and the reliable Strokkur, which erupts every 5-10 minutes shooting water 15-20 meters high. The geothermal field spreads across a hillside with bubbling hot springs, steaming vents, and that unmistakable sulfur smell. Massive tour bus crowds from 10am-4pm, but early morning and evening visits offer a different experience entirely. No camping allowed in the immediate area.
Located right off the Golden Circle route on paved roads, with a large visitor center, gift shop, and restaurant. Free to visit but paid parking during peak season. The access road can ice up badly in winter – bring chains or studded tires.
The world's original geyser and Strokkur's reliable show.
