Strawberry Lake Trailhead

Gateway to Strawberry Mountain Wilderness, with a moderate 3.3-mile trail to an alpine lake tucked beneath 9,000-foot peaks.

This well-maintained trailhead provides access to one of eastern Oregon’s premier wilderness areas. The trail to Strawberry Lake climbs through old-growth forest before opening into alpine meadows, ending at a pristine mountain lake surrounded by the jagged peaks of the Strawberry Range. Decent parking area with vault toilets and trail information kiosks.

Access via Forest Road 1640 off US-26 — about 11 miles of good gravel road. Popular with day hikers and backpackers from late June through September. Snow can linger into July at higher elevations. No water at the trailhead.
