Umatilla National Forest — Langdon Lake Campground
Langdon Lake Campground sits in the Umatilla National Forest at around 5,100 feet, giving you cool nights and ponderosa canopy even in July. It’s a small developed USFS site — vault toilets, fire rings, and picnic tables, no hookups. The lake itself is modest but fishable. It’s far enough off the main highway that you won’t be sharing a fire ring with weekend warriors blasting music, but close enough to Ukiah that resupply is a short run. Traffic is light; solitude is the norm.
Access is off Forest Road 52 northeast of Ukiah. The road is gravel but generally passable for two-wheel drive rigs in dry conditions — high clearance makes it more comfortable. Snow can linger at elevation into May. No reservations; first-come, first-served. Positioned well for rigs exploring the Hells Canyon corridor or the John Day country to the south.
Cool Blue Mountains basecamp above Ukiah.
