Springbokwasser Camp — Skeleton Coast National Park

Springbokwasser is one of the few designated camps inside Skeleton Coast National Park’s southern sector, managed directly by Namibia’s Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism. Sitting in the hyper-arid gravel plains east of the beach dunes, it’s a no-frills affair — basic ablution facilities, a fire ring, and a horizon that goes on forever. Wildlife sightings here lean toward oryx, springbok, and occasionally desert-adapted elephant tracks pushing through. You’ll share the park with very few people; the gate permit system keeps numbers low. Nights are cold and brilliantly starlit.

Access requires a valid Skeleton Coast Park permit obtained in advance at the Ugabmund or Springbokwasser gate — do not show up without one. Roads inside the park are compacted gravel and sand; a 4WD is mandatory. Fuel up fully before entering — there is no fuel inside the park. The camp serves the Springbokwasser to Ugabmund Gate corridor directly. Visit May through October to avoid summer coastal fog and extreme heat.
