Sierra de Grazalema — Llanos del Republicano Dispersed Camp
The Llanos del Republicano is a broad, rough grazing flat sitting between 900 and 1,100 metres on the western shoulder of the Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park. Pull off the forest track above Benaocaz onto a firm dirt clearing under scattered cork oaks — tight for multiple rigs but workable for two or three vehicles. This is pinsapo fir country, one of the last stands of Spanish fir in Europe, and the silence at night is absolute. No facilities, no signage, no services.
Access via the CA-9104 above Benaocaz on gravel-and-rock track — high-clearance 2WD can manage in dry conditions, 4WD preferred after rain. The park enforces a strict no-open-fire rule year-round in the protected zone; gas stoves only. July and August bring walking groups; shoulder season is far quieter. Check with the Grazalema park office for any temporary closures before entry.
