Shelf Road Dispersed Camping

Multiple primitive sites along the limestone cliffs where rock climbers and overlanders camp beneath towering canyon walls.

Scattered primitive camping spots line this historic shelf road carved into limestone cliffs above Fourmile Creek. Sites offer dramatic canyon views with room for rigs up to medium size, though most spots work better for smaller setups. Popular with rock climbers accessing the world-class sport climbing area, so expect company on weekends. No amenities beyond fire rings at some spots — pack out everything.

Access via the lower shelf road is rough dirt with washboard sections and some loose rock. High-clearance recommended though determined 2WD vehicles make it. Road can be impassable when wet. Best spring through fall, though winter camping is possible during mild spells.
