Seven Devils Mountains Dry Diggins Lookout
This staffed lookout sits at 6,600 feet on a rocky outcrop in Idaho’s Seven Devils Mountains, offering spectacular views across Hell’s Canyon to Oregon’s Wallowa Mountains. The 40-foot steel tower is typically staffed during fire season, and the lookout personnel are usually happy to chat with visitors about the country spread out below. On clear days you can see into Washington, Oregon, and deep into the Frank Church Wilderness.
Access via Forest Road 517 from Riggins requires high-clearance 4WD for the final rocky miles. The road is rough but doable for stock trucks with decent tires. Snow closes the route from November through May. No camping allowed at the lookout itself, but dispersed camping is available a quarter-mile back down the access road.
