This pristine alpine lake sits at the base of the dramatic Sawtooth Mountains, offering one of Idaho’s most iconic mountain reflections. The jagged granite peaks of McGown Peak and Mount Heyburn create a stunning backdrop that changes color throughout the day. Popular with photographers, especially during sunrise and sunset when the peaks glow in alpenglow. The lake offers excellent fishing for brook and rainbow trout.
Access is via a paved road that becomes gravel for the final mile to the lake. The area can be busy during summer months, particularly on weekends. Winter access requires snowshoes or skis, but rewards visitors with complete solitude and snow-covered peaks.
